At Keepsake Flower Preservation, in Rochester, NY we are now offering 3D Oolitic sand preservation.
This process was discovered in the 1970’s by Geneal
Condon.
Your flowers are placed in Oolitic Sand. The sand is made
up of tiny fossilized brine shrimp eggs from the Great Salt
Lake. The sand granules are hollow and draw away the moisture
from the flowers without damaging them. We place your flowers
in our specially designed drying room which removes the moisture in
about a week. As the flowers dry some color changes do occur
naturally for example: reds turn burgundy, some pinks turn
toward purple hues, whites turn ivory. This is a natural
process and should be expected. We will color your
flowers back to their original color as best as is humanly
possible.
After preservation your flowers are colored and carefully placed
in a domed frame of your choice. We have other containers
available by special order. If you prefer, we can preserve
your flowers and you can make your own display (in this case we will
charge you per flower for preservation).
We use
acrylic domes with UV protection on all of our framed pictures to
protect the artwork from UV rays and to help cut down on
fading. It is advised that your artwork not be displayed under
florescent lighting or in direct sunlight.
Brides are encouraged to visit our studio prior to their wedding
to view artwork samples
Consultations are free and by appointment only.
We have to work on a first come first served
basis because of limited space and resources.
It is important that the flowers arrive at
our studio while they are still fresh—usually within 48
hours. The success of the final artwork depends on the
condition of the flowers we receive. The bouquet should be
wrapped lightly in DRY paper towels or tissue paper and kept
refrigerated or in a cool place until delivery. Be gentle—try
not to bruise the flowers. DO NOT spray flowers with
water and never place in the freezer . Please call
before dropping off a bouquet so that someone will be at the studio
to receive it.

A non-refundable $100 deposit is required when we receive the
flowers to cover preservation work, and the balance is due
upon completion of the artwork (usually 6 to 8 weeks).
